Bus breakdowns a boon for tow company

It's no coincidence that Gene Sanders' two trucks are painted school bus yellow. He's a former school bus mechanic and his company, Elite Towing, hauls away most of the buses that break down along Lowcountry roads and highways. The unpredictably of the state-owned bus fleet of 5,700 buses provides a steady stream of business for Sanders' company. Already this school year, the company has responded to two bus fires and a spate of other breakdowns. But the 18-year-old North Charleston-based company has also developed a reputation for handling heavy-duty jobs involving tractor-trailer accidents, including a recent one in which an 18-wheeler overturned on the Mark Clark Expressway.
