'Paw'ker Run to benefit SPCA

The fifth annual "Paw"ker Run has been organized for Sept. 20 as a motorcycle rally to benefit the Frances R. Willis SPCA animal shelter in Summerville.

The motorcycle run will begin at the Dorchester Shrine Club located on Highway 61. From there, participants will make stops at Riders Saloon in Moncks Corner, Big Deck Daddy's on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, Wolftrack Inn in West Ashley and Rockafella's in Summerville. There will be an optional stop and tour of the SPCA before returning to the Dorchester Shrine Club.

The entry fee is $20. Registration will begin at 10 a.m. with the first bike scheduled to leave at 11 a.m.

DCL offers free computer classes

The Dorchester County Library in St. George and Summerville will offer the following free computer classes for the fall: "WWW What?: An Introduction to Computers and the Internet," "Finding What You Want on the Internet: a Guide to Using Search Engines," "Beyond Google: Finding Books, Articles, Podcasts and Other Free Stuff Online," "E-mail Basics" and "CYO (See You Online): Instant Messaging for Adults."

Registration is ongoing until classes are filled and patrons must sign up for the classes in person. Contact the library at 871-5075 in Summerville or 563-9189 in St. George for a class schedule.

Library gets credit bureau involved

Beginning in September, library accounts that are not settled within 15 days of billing will be charged a $10 fee by Unique Management, a collection agency that specializes in recovering library materials.

Library accounts that are not settled with Unique Management and the library will be reported to the credit bureaus. Materials are not accepted 90 days after the due date and a replacement cost must be paid. For more information, contact the library in Summerville at 871-5075 and in St. George at 563-9189.

Chamber to honor manufacturers

The Greater Summerville Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce plans to honor the manufacturing industry with an Industry Appreciation Luncheon on Sept. 16 at 11 a.m. at Woodlands Resort and Inn.

Guest speakers will include state Sen. Larry Grooms, John Scarborough of the state Department of Commerce and David Ginn of the Charleston Regional Development Alliance.

The cost is $65 for chamber members and $80 for nonmembers. Those interested in attending should RSVP by Sept. 12 at noon. Call 873-2931 or e-mail jbrooks@greatersummerville.org to make reservations.

DREAM seeking old photographs

Summerville DREAM (Downtown Restoration, Enhancement and Management) is looking for old photographs that might be used in "Summerville," a pictorial history to be published by Arcadia Publishing in its Images of America series, for the 2009 Golden Age of Summerville Festival.
